Hydrogen is the ultimate clean fuel for gas turbines with carbon free emission. MHPS has already developed a large-scale hydrogen gas turbine combustor that uses a mix of natural gas with 30% hydrogen with NOx emissions identical to the level of an equivalent gas fired plant, thanks to special suppression techniques. The turbine is compatible with an output equivalent to 700 MW with 1600°C turbine inlet temperature and emits 10% less CO2 compared to a same size natural gas fired turbine. As this technology enables the use of existing facilities, large-scale modification of power generation facilities becomes unnecessary. This makes it possible to lower costs and other hurdles, promoting a smooth transition to a hydrogen society.
